Pete Gibbs

    Pete has been with the University since August 2014. Originally part of the interim management team, he took up the role on a permanent basis in July 2015.

    Pete leads the Human Resource Directorate that actively supports the strategic objectives of the University by providing strategic leadership and guidance on a range of areas to managers and staff. HR provides a comprehensive service including guidance, advice and support on policies, recruitment, remuneration & reward, performance & development, equality & diversity, employee relations and engagement and organisational development & training.

    Pete came into Higher Education in 2001, joining Manchester Metropolitan University as its Head of Employee Relations, moving on to encompass the HR Operational Services as well as ER. Pete can see many similarities with the evolutionary process that took place at MMU, with the one taking place at Wrexham University.

    Since August 2012 and before taking up the role at Wrexham University, Pete has worked on various interim HR senior level assignments in the sector across a number of universities, the last of those being Lancaster University.

    Pete started his HR career in the private sector at BAE SYSTEMS, firstly at the BAE site in Brough, in Yorkshire, moving across the Pennines to Lancashire to the then headquarters of the Military Aircraft Division at Warton in 1998. He operated in various senior HR roles in BAE before leaving the private sector for the HE sector.

    A fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), Pete has 23 years of HR experience across both the private and HE sector. He is passionate about his profession and believes HR has a pivotal part to play in strategically shaping the future of the University. He believes that the continued successful evolution of the University depends on all of the people who work here. He and his team will continue to support managers to display excellent leadership and management to achieve motivated, engaged and customer focused staff who strive to provide our students with the best possible overall experience.
