Your Guide to Pride

June is Pride Month. It’s important to celebrate the LQBTQ+ community. Here are some really accessible resources, including books, podcasts, poetry and Netflix documentaries to get stuck into and learn some more about what it’s like to be LGBTQ+.

Radio

Could this be the new soundtrack to your day? …… Launched on the 7th June, you can listen to Virgin Radio Pride UK, to include conversations that spark discussion around trans-rights, gay adoption, living with HIV and helping families understand LGBTQ+ issues. Follow these links to listen wherever you are:

• Disclosure - about the representation of trans people in TV and film over the last 100 years.
• The Death and Life of Marsha P. Johnson - Marsha P. Johnson was a historic figure in the LGBTQ+ community. She was an activist, transgender woman.
• A Secret Love - This film is about a lesbian couple who spent most of their life hiding their relationship from the world.

Books

• Life as a Unicorn – the astonishing tale of how a devout Muslim child became a scathingly funny drag queen and began to see both Islam and the world with fresh eyes.
• On the Red Hill – Where four lives fell into place  - A mesmerising entwining of queer love story, group biography, reflection on time and place and celebration of rural Wales.

• What the Trans - A UK based news podcast for trans, non binary and allies.
• Queer as Fact - This podcast looks at queer history from around the world.

Film

• Tyler – (2020) A short film (15 mins) “Tyler is a hyper-intelligent 9-year-old boy, who has no shame on being himself. On an ordinary lunch, he talks about his new crush, causing an unexpected reaction on his older brother, Daniel.”
