What you will study
This short course will develop students’ knowledge and understanding of the new ALN Framework in Wales, enabling them to stay updated on policy changes and best practices within the Welsh education system.
The course enhances and complements students’ professional skills, equipping them with the knowledge required to navigate the new policy landscape. Focusing on the identification, assessment, and support processes outlined in the ALN Code, this course ensures students are well-prepared to meet statutory obligations while fostering an inclusive learning environment.
The course provides opportunities for reflective practice, enabling participants to critically evaluate their approaches and adapt to the challenges of implementing the new ALN system.
By the end of the course, students will be able to evaluate the effectiveness of contemporary legislation designed to support an identified ALN and justify a range of intervention/support strategies which promote inclusion and support for a child or young person (and their family) with an ALN.
Teaching & Assessment
The course will adopt a blended learning approach and will include:
- Introduction session – Face to face on campus (option to join online)
- 10 weekly sessions consisting of: 2 hours asynchronous online tasks and 1 hour workbook task
- Conclusion session – Face to face on campus (option to join online)
The assessment for this course will be the completion of a Reflective Workbook covering the module Learning Outcomes. Students will be assessed at Level 4.
