What you will study

You will study 10 modules to cover a broad range of Digital Skills.

Week 1 will be focused on Devices & Interfaces covering the use of computers, laptops, and mobile devices, operating systems and software navigation and customising device settings.

In week 2 we will look at Productivity & Organisation with topics including managing digital files and folders using productivity tools and techniques.

Moving on to week 3, we will be discussing Communication & Collaboration topics such as effective email communication, online collaboration tools and platforms, netiquette and digital etiquette.

In week 4 we will cover Information Literacy by evaluating digital information sources, implementing information searching and retrieval techniques, copyright and intellectual property considerations.

Week 5 Introduces Security and Privacy and how to deal with online threats and security risks, password management and data protection, digital footprint and privacy considerations.

Into week 6 we will explore Creativity & Multimedia by creating and editing digital media using a variety of software.

In week 7 we will begin our focus on the Microsoft suite, starting with word processing using MS Word.

Then in week 8 we will use MS Excel to work with spreadsheets.

In week 9 we will learn how to create, format and develop presentations for distribution and display using MS PowerPoint.

In the last week, we will work with PDFs and learn to cohesively digitally bind bodies of work in a universally compatible format 

Entry requirements & applying

Students should have access to Microsoft 365 (Office)

Other than this, there are no entry requirements for this course; just an interest in the subject!

The booking for this course closes a week before the course start date.

Teaching & Assessment

This is an online module with an optional weekly Friday drop-in session for advice on the module and feedback on assessments.
The assessment for this module is 100% Coursework.

Each of the ten units in this course includes a hands-on, practical assessment designed to reinforce and apply the digital skills covered in that unit.

At the end of the course, the set of ten completed assessment tasks will be compiled into a cohesive themed handbook.
