Oration of Aled Lewis Evans

Aled Lewis Evans lives in Wrexham and has written numerous poetry and prose collections since 1982 in the Welsh language. His volume of short stories in English Driftwood reflected his prose writing over three decades, as did his collection of poetry Someone else in the audience. In 2022 he published Afterglow a brand-new collection of English Poetry.

Following University years at Bangor University, in the 1980’s he was a presenter on Marcher Sound local radio, and now features regularly on Radio Cymru with a ‘Thought for the Day’ and ‘Caniadaeth y Cysegr’, sharing a selection of hymns.

He has also written plays such as The Cafe for Wrexham Festival. He translated the international hit You Raise Me Up to Welsh, entitled Dyrchefir Fi, which was subsequently recorded by many. His poems have been regularly featured on BBC radio and television and S4C transmissions from National Eisteddfodau and Urdd festivals since 1994.

Llwybrau Llonyddwch (Paths of Peace) was published by Gomer Press for the National Eisteddfod at Meifod in the Summer of 2015. The book features journeys to places of peace and tranquillity throughout Wales. Aled is now Minister of Capel y Groes Ebeneser in Wrexham, and St John Street Chapel in Chester, after twenty years as a lay-preacher visiting areas all over Wales.

Recently at the Wrexham National Eisteddfod he was interviewed by Bethan Gwanas in the Literature Tent about his life and publications. Also, he prepared an event at Maes D to look back at eight National Eisteddfodau in the Wrexham area between 1876 and 2025
