What is the main evidence I need to provide to make an application?

The main evidence needed are proof of identity, qualifications, and a valid Secure English Language Test which meets the required standards.

We ask you to upload copies of your passport, qualifications, and any IELTS certificates or equivalents that you may have to apply on CenturusONE. We require full transcripts and certificates. Qualifications should be sent in their original language alongside certified translations if not already in the English language. We also require any references and work experience (if available). When submitting work experience, please ensure that you include a detailed job description.

When will my course begin?

The course start dates can be found on conditional offer letters. For most courses, this will be in September.

What do I need to bring to enrol?

In order to enrol, you must bring original copies of all of the evidence provided to us when making your application. This includes your passport, visa, qualifications, certificates, English language certificates, confirmation of payment and any other documents shown in your application.

What do I need for a Student visa?

If you want to apply for a Student visa to study in the UK, you will require a Confirmation of Acceptance of Studies (CAS). A CAS is a unique reference number that you will need when you make your Student Visa application. The CAS is confirmation of your unconditional offer of a place to study and the University’s commitment to sponsor you as a student. The CAS will enable the Home Office to look up secure online information about your application. We will send you a CAS number once you have accepted an academic unconditional offer of a place, paid your course fees and provided adequate financial documentation that confirms you meet the maintenance requirement.

The earliest that you can use your CAS to apply for your visa is six months before your programme begins.

We will send your CAS number to you in what we call a 'CAS Statement'. This CAS Statement also confirms all the personal and course information that the University has sent to the Home Office. A CAS cannot be used more than once. If your visa is refused, you must email the Immigration Compliance team on immigration@glyndwr.ac.uk.

What is a GU Number?

A GU Number can be found on your conditional offer letter. When enquiring about the release of your CAS, it is a good idea to have your conditional offer with you and provide your GU number or date of birth alongside your name. This will allow us to find your application and answer any questions.

What are the rules regarding international students working in the UK?

If you are in the UK on a course at degree level or above, then you will likely be permitted to work for up to 20 hours per week during term-time (this is confirmed on your BRP), and during vacation periods you are allowed to work full-time. The working week is defined by the Home Office as a period of 7 days beginning with a Monday. This means that during term-time, students will be able to work a maximum of 20 hours in the 7 day period from Monday to Sunday. For more information please view the Home Office website.

Do I need to pay for healthcare while studying in the UK?

If you are planning on studying for more than six months then yes. From 6 April 2015, the UKVI introduced new rules which means that you are required to pay an Immigration Health Surcharge. The amount you are required to pay per year is £470. When you submit your visa application, you will input the dates of your studies in the UK and the system will calculate your fees for the duration of your course. The full amount will need to be paid when submitting your visa application. This applies to international students applying from within or outside of the UK.

A list of local GP’s can be found here.

What clothing will I need?

The climate in the UK is changeable. Temperatures range between -5 degrees centigrade in winter to 25 degrees centigrade in the summer, but averages are between 2 and 17 degrees. UK weather is highly unpredictable; it can be wet, cold and windy one day, and sunny, warm and calm the next day. If you are studying in the UK for a full year or more, we advise you to bring a range of clothing that is suitable for the changing weather conditions.

Students should ideally bring with them t-shirts/shirts, warm sweaters, a raincoat, trousers/jeans and a strong, comfortable pair of shoes for the winter months. Clothing is reasonably cheap in the UK and you can buy suitable clothes from any of the many clothes shops in Wrexham, but make sure you bring extra money with you to do so.

Are there any differences in electrical equipment?

Voltage in the UK is 240 volts and all electrical appliances use a 3-pin plug, so you will need an adaptor to use any electrical equipment that you bring from home or you can buy items while you are in the UK. Personal laptop computers are expensive in the UK, so we recommend that you buy one in your own country and bring it with you to the UK if you want a personal computer in your student accommodation.

Where can people stay who visit me while I am studying?

Hotel accommodation is readily available in Wrexham and its surrounding area. Visitors generally use either The Lemon Tree or The Grove Guest House. Both are within 15 minutes’ walk of the main campus. There is also a Premier Inn within 5-10 minutes’ walk from campus and adjacent to Wrexham General Train Station.
