• Permitted working hours

  The number of hours you are permitted to work each week depends on your level of study and whether you are working during term time or a vacation period.

  • Students studying at Level 3 (foundation level) may work up to 10 hours per week during term time and full time during vacation periods.

  • Students studying at degree level or above may work up to 20 hours per week during term time and full time during vacation periods.

  Paid work and unpaid work (voluntary) are counted towards the amount of work you are allowed to do each week during term dates.

  "Volunteering" is not counted towards the amount of work you are allowed to do each week, as long as it meets the definition of volunteering in the UKVI Student Policy Guidance (Pages 104-105)

  The UKVI determine a week as Monday-Sunday, meaning you can not work over your permitted hours between Monday-Sunday. You cannot distribute or spread or save hours across multiple weeks.

   

• Permitted types of work

  While you are in the United Kingdom on a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) places restrictions on the type of work you are permitted to undertake.

  You must not engage in the following types of work:

  • Self-employment or business activity

  • Work as a professional sportsperson, including as a sports coach

  • Work as an entertainer

  • Any full-time permanent role

  • Training as a doctor or dentist

  Please note that employment with an employer registered outside the UK still counts towards your permitted working hours and must comply with the work conditions of your visa.

   

• Term dates & term letter guidance

  You can view the term dates and vacation periods for your programme level here

  Please be aware that working more than your permitted hours during term time is a breach of your visa conditions and may result in your visa being curtailed.

  Most employers will ask for evidence of the number of hours you are allowed to work. You can request a copy of your term letter by emailing immigration@wrexham.ac.uk. Your term letter will be provided by email within five working days.

• Course specific guidance

  The following courses have placements built into the curriculum which do not count toward the UKVI working hours. 

  • BN (Hons) Adult Nursing
  • Courses with the added "Advanced Practice Module"
• References for employers

  Most employers will require a reference letter from the university before issuing you with an offer to work. You can obtain a reference by emailing employmentreferences@wrexham.ac.uk.
