Justice of Supreme Court to give lecture at Wrexham University

The Rt Hon Lord Lloyd-Jones, a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom, will give a lecture next month at Wrexham University on how judgments are made, in particular in appeal courts.
A legal scholar and Welsh speaker from Pontypridd, Glamorgan, Lord David Lloyd-Jones was the first Welshman to be appointed a Justice of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom – a position he has held since October 2017.
He is also the President of the Law Council of Wales, which considers issues related to legal education and the development of the legal professions in Wales.
Taking place in the Nick Whitehead Theatre within the University on Friday, November 8 starting at 2pm, Lord Lloyd-Jones will deliver a lecture entitled ‘The Judgment of the Court’.
The lecture is being supported by the University’s Cyril Oswald Jones Law Bursary, which was set up after the late Francis Glynne-Jones made a significant donation to the institution back in 2022, with money that had been received from his deceased brother, in memory of his grandfather Cyril Oswald Jones, his father, Hywel Glynne-Jones, and his brother Colin Glynne-Jones, all former Presidents of the Chester and North Wales Law Society.
The fund is being put to use across a 10-year period to enable gifted Wrexham University Law students to pursue their ambition of a career in the profession by covering their course fees.
Lord Lloyd-Jones said: “It is a privilege to have been invited to give a lecture at Wrexham University, as part of their series of Cyril Oswald Jones Law Lectures, and I greatly look forward to my visit to the University.”
Dylan Rhys Jones, Head of Law and Senior Lecturer at Wrexham University, added: “We are delighted that the Right Hon Lord Lloyd-Jones will be giving a lecture, here at the University.
“Lord Lloyd-Jones has a long-established career in the legal profession – and was the first Welsh justice to join Supreme Court ranks – the UK’s highest court – back in 2017. He is an inspiration to many and I know that his talk will be an extremely fascinating one.
