If you are an international student aiming to study at university but do not yet meet the academic or English language requirements for a three-year honours degree, the International Foundation Year could be the ideal starting point for you.
These programmes are designed to prepare you for undergraduate study in the UK, with tailored academic support and additional English language development to help you succeed.
It is also a great option if you have been out of education for some time or are looking to change direction and pursue a new academic or career path.
The International Foundation Year can be added to a range of degree courses offered at Wrexham, allowing you to begin your university journey without delay. Throughout the year, you will study core modules designed to improve your academic, personal and professional skills while also enhancing your English language proficiency. This will help you to settle into university life and build a strong foundation for future success.
Once you successfully complete the International Foundation Year, you can progress directly onto your chosen undergraduate degree, if you decide that this is the right path for you.

Our International Foundation Year has been carefully designed to develop both your academic and English Language skills in preparation for our 3 year bachelor's degree courses. Each pathway contains a set of unique modules in addition to the modules found across all three pathway's. These unique modules will develop your subject knowledge in preparation for future studies.

Our International Foundation Years offer two routes depending on your level of English Language Proficiency.
Route 1IELTS 5.5 With No Skill Score Below 5.0 and a maximum of two skills at 5.0
Applicants with IELTS score of 5.5, with no skills score below 5.0 and a maximum of two skills at 5.0 are only eligible to apply for the 1-year standalone International Foundation Year. If applicants hold an alternative SELT, acceptance maybe granted subject to Wrexham University admissions assessment on eligibility. Once accepted on to the International Foundation Year, applicants will be issued a one-year confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
Students will initially apply for a subject specialism (e.g. International Foundation Year Engineering) with the intention of progressing to a subject specific honours degree route (e.g. BEng (Hons) Aeronautical & Mechanical Engineering), subject to the successful completion of the International Foundation Year.
Students are required to sit an approved UKVI SELT at the end of Semester 1 to apply for their chosen bachelor’s degree programme at Wrexham University or any other higher education institution (HEI) requiring a second CAS.
Route 2
IELTS 5.5 With No Skill Score Below 5.5
Applicants with an IELTS score of 5.5 with no skills score below 5.5 are to apply for the 4-year integrated International Foundation Year pathway. In some cases, acceptance of alternative English language proficiency certificates with an equivalent of IELTS 5.5 with no skill score below 5.5, can be accepted subject to Wrexham University admissions assessment on eligibility. - Tuition Fees
£12,500 (for students with an IELTS score of 5.5 overall with no less than 5.0 in each subskill) - 1 year International Foundation Year
£11,900 (for students with an IELTS score of 5.5 overall with no less than 5.5 in each subskill) - 4 Year Inter-grated Foundation Programme leading to Level 6 Qualification
