Community Projects
Student research projects with a focus on the local Wrexham community.
The Design Communication team never miss a chance to weave research with teaching by involving students with community projects, developing their skillsets and increasing connections with local stakeholders.
8 Streets Exhibition
Working with second year students from Graphic design, the team developed an exhibition for the front courtyard of the Wrexham Museum in November 2020. We produced 9 A0-sized panels that highlighted eight streets in Wrexham.
Holt Project
Working with first year students from Graphic Design, the team started working with Holt Local History Society, Wrexham Museum, and the National Museum Wales in February 2021 to showcase an exhibition on the region’s Roman Heritage. The exhibition was the 2021 winner of the Society for Museum Archaeology Annual Awards for “Excellence on Exhibition Display or Interpretation Project”.
Lego Project
In February 2022, second year Graphic Design students began helping Wrexham Museum with the exhibition, “Built in Bricks”, involving the popular toy building brick, LegoTM. The students are applying their knowledge and skills about modular typeface, approaching bilingual challenges, writing scripts, producing storyboards, filming, editing, and using augmented reality.
