The peer reviewer role is vital in helping us maintain high academic standards and support fellow researchers.

What is Peer Review?

Peer review means reading a colleague’s submission carefully and providing helpful, respectful feedback. Your review helps authors improve their work and ensures only high-quality research is published.

Why Peer Review?

  • Support your academic community.
  • Gain insight into other research in your field.
  • Build your CV with valuable peer review experience.

Should You Accept a Review Invitation?

Ask yourself:

  • Is the paper related to your expertise?
  • Can you meet the deadline (usually 3 weeks)?
  • Do you have enough time for a careful, thoughtful review?

If you’re unsure, it’s okay to say no or ask for more time.

How to Write a Helpful Review

  • Be respectful and constructive: Point out strengths as well as areas for improvement.
  • Be specific: Explain what changes you recommend and why.
  • Focus on the big picture: Help with structure, argument clarity, and research validity.
  • Distinguish feedback: Clearly separate major issues from minor suggestions.
  • Keep a neutral tone: Be professional and kind.
  • Confidentiality: Keep the manuscript and your review private. The process is anonymous.
  • No AI: Do not use AI tools to write your review or report.
