Dr Amy Payne
Senior Lecturer in Psychology
I graduated from my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Liverpool in 2010.
Following this I worked in a range of mental health roles including psychiatric intensive care (PICU), adult inpatient mental health, older adult inpatient mental health, and with the A&E mental health liaison team.
I returned to the University of Liverpool to completed my Masters degree in Clinical Sciences (MRes), graduating in 2013. As part of my MRes I carried out a project with Liverpool Royal NHS trust focused on risk factors for sustaining dog bite injuries. I also carried out a project with Aintree NHS trust to determine patient characteristics of individuals with Ankylosing Spondylitis, along with building a database of their patients for future research.
During my time studying for my MRes I also worked as an Assistant Psychologist with the child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) with the community mental health team on the Wirral.
Following this, I worked as a graduate teaching assistant at Edge Hill University, and completed my PhD in 2019. My PhD work focused on the impact of arts for health activities for older adults who reside in care homes.
I joined Wrexham University in January 2019, and became a senior lecturer in 2022. I am currently the programme leader for the MSc in Applied Psychology, along with teaching a range of modules at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
My research interests include the psychology of public health, holistic interventions, lifespan development, and systematic reviews.
