Dan Pope

Senior Lecturer in TV Production

Wrexham University

I have a profound interest in all aspects of media, and twenty years’ experience in Film and Broadcast Media Production. Before my time at Wrexham, I was VFX editor on the BBC children’s drama ‘The Worst Witch’. This involved managing the visual effects elements of the series’ editorial workflow and creating composites and other effects. This role necessitated a solid understanding of Avid Media Composer and the Foundry’s Nuke.

Previous to this I was a senior engineer at Framestore, the largest visual effects and postproduction facility in Europe based in London, Montreal and New York. Here I worked with Oscar winning Visual Effects Supervisors and was responsible for film editorial equipment and related pipelines. This involved remaining current in all major technologies and devising workflow solutions on a project by project basis. Additionally, during this time I spent one day a week lecturing in Animation and Visual Effects at Salford University.

As well as my post-production and VFX experience I have spent many hours on set. While at SLV small studio and crewing facility in south London, I assisted crews on a number of productions ranging from music videos, commercials and product photography. Additionally during my time at Framestore I spent time on the set of the film ‘War Horse’ operating a markerless motion capture system I developed.
I enjoy remaining current with creative techniques and technologies and derive great pleasure from sharing my knowledge and experience with others.
