Principal Lecturer/Professional Lead in Nursing

I am a highly motivated leader and manager with over 20 years of higher education experience and extensive knowledge of curriculum design and delivery of PSRB nursing programmes (traditional and work-based learning apprenticeships) and academic quality assurance.

I am educated to Doctoral level, having completed a qualitative generic study exploring Registered Nurses’ experiences of working with Trainee Nursing Associates in Acute Hospital Settings. I am a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy/Advance HE. I am a member of the Wrexham University Academic Integrity Panel and the university Research Ethics Panel.

I am also a registered nurse with extensive critical care experience. I moved to the Higher Education sector as a lecturer practitioner, subsequently leading various pre and post registration PSRB nursing programmes as a lecturer, senior lecturer and principal lecturer. I have worked in four different universities during my HE career with responsibility for strategic leadership and operational delivery, and I have occupied 3 external examiner tenures. I am a member of the Wrexham University Academic Integrity Panel and the university Research Ethics Panel.

 In my current role as Principal Lecturer / Professional Nursing Lead at Wrexham University I am responsible for:

- PSRB Programme development, curriculum design, oversight of programme management and programme delivery for the BN – Bachelor of Nursing (Full/Part time) and MSc Nursing programmes across the adult, mental health and child fields.

- Leading and managing a team of professional and academic staff.

- Establishing and maintaining effective relations with external stakeholders/placement providers and external agencies/professional bodies.

- Programme quality assurance and reporting – internally via university QA processes and to external stakeholders such as HEIW (Health Education Innovation Wales), the Nursing and Midwifery Council, and Partner Health Boards.

- Listening to the student voice, implementing and evaluating programme enhancements.   -Resource management.

- Providing pastoral and academic support to students.

- Chairing academic groups, student voice forums, assessment boards.

- Operational and strategic decision making.

- Recruit applicants, academic and professional staff.
