Natalie Fraser-Edwards
Lecturer in Nursing
I have always had a caring nature and an inquisitive mind; prior to becoming a nurse I was fortunate enough to travel the world with my employment. Experiencing the world allowed me to gain a valuable insight and understanding within different cultures; whilst learning to recognise and support diversity and equality. I developed a wider appreciation for our NHS and it was these experiences that led me to start my career in the nursing profession.
Since qualifying as a registered nurse I have worked in various care settings such as surgical care within the acute sector; moving on to then specialise in palliative care at a local Hospice to Wrexham. I have a keen interest with end of life care and this is an area of nursing I would like to research further.
Working on the 'shop floor' has not only given me knowledge and understanding that has enhanced my clinical skills; its given me a valuable insight into what it is like for our future student nurses and with this I recognise the importance of support to encourage our future generations of nurses to celebrate their individual qualities and be the best they can be.
Nurse education has always been a passion of mine, when I reflect on my time as a student nurse I remember some of the challenges I faced. However, the support I received from my teachers enabled me to feel that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. This mentality has stayed with me in my career and I now feel privileged to pass this on.
I have just commenced my Postgraduate Certificate in Education course at Wrexham University which will assist my development as an innovative teacher. I am looking forward to learning new ways of how to adapt my teaching sessions to be the best they can be; whilst gaining valuable knowledge and understanding on the evidence that underpins teaching practice.
