Peter Ella-Tongwiis
I am a Biomedical Scientist registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC). I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory technology (KNUST-Ghana) and a Master’s degree in Biomedical Science (University of Chester).
Prior to undertaking further education at the university of Chester, I worked as a biomedical scientist for over 4 years in various units i.e. blood transfusion and haematology, biochemistry, histology and microbiology. I am therefore proficient in a vast range of laboratory principles, techniques and instrumentation.
My PhD investigated how changes in biomarkers in Bladder cancer patients may be associated with cancer recurrence. The research specifically looked at the role of inflammatory biomarkers, as well as markers of growth and angiogenesis in bladder cancer recurrence and progression. Employing several specialist techniques such as Immunohistochemistry, Bioplex immunoassays and ELISA, several biomarkers in patients’ blood, urine and bladder tissues are being investigated.
Currently, I am a biomedical research scientist at the Maelor Academic Unit of Medical & Surgical Sciences at Betsi Cadwaladr university health board (BCUHB). I am also a principal research fellow at the Wrexham University where I teach and also lead on several modules.
