Simon has worked in a range of private, statutory and voluntary sector agencies in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and has experience working internationally in Ghana and Israel during the past 23 years.
His academic interests include student engagement and advocacy, technology enabled learning, interprofessional learning, professional development, change leadership and servant leadership.
Simon holds a JNC professional youth work qualification and is a member for the ETS for Wales. His research interests have been centered on intercultural learning, the impact of international youth work on young people, rural youth work, digital youth work and social enterprise, values based leadership.
As Dean of the Faculty for Social and Life Sciences and the North Wales Business School, Simon has responsibility for a broad and varied portfolio of subjects that continue to grow and develop and are informed by a relentless pursuit of excellence for the student population we serve.
Simon is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education and is a member of the Interim Youth Work Board for Wales having contributed to Time to Deliver for Young People in Wales, 2021.
Simon has taught on UG and PG Youth and Community Work programmes and on academic staff development programmes. Subjects have included Understanding Self and Others; Developing Issue Based Learning; Management of Evidenced Based Practice; Creative Skills for Engagement, International Perspectives and Leadership and Management.
Simon recently represented Welsh Government at the recent 3rdEuropean Youth Work Convention in Bonn, December 2020.
