Stan Chapman
Senior Lecturer Post Graduate Nursing and Allied Health
Stan is an Advanced Clinical Practitioner since 2015 and a non medical prescriber from 2006, he has 22 years experience within prehospital care, community and hospital settings including urgent treatment.
As Allied Health Professions Non Medical Prescribing lead for Barnet PCT he developed patient group directions for allied health professional and nursing roles, developing directions for administration by Physiotherapists and Podiatrists. Another strand was to serve on the medicines management committee, one element of this was identifying best value in prescribing, analysis prescribing data and supporting the non medical prescribing cohort with governance and regular educational updates. The third strand was to identify suitable candidates for non medical prescribing courses based on service need.
He completed part of a PGCHE and this inspired him to teach in physiotherapy roles supporting colleagues to become non medical prescribers and advanced clinical practitioners.
This interest in teaching and improving patient care inspired him to become a senior lecturer in non medical prescribing and advanced clinical practice which is concurrent with his clinical practice.
Recently he completed a post graduate certificate in acute medicine and urgent care which supports his clinical practice in the hospital, emergency and frailty areas.
His dissertation topics include: the use of body weight support in rehabilitation of stroke survivors and the effects of body weight support on VO2 max; Prevention of falls in people over 65.
His lecturing role spans non medical prescribing, and advanced clinical practice clinical assessment ad diagnostic reasoning part 1 and 2.
His areas of interest are on medical prescribing; the comprehensive geriatric assessment and plans developed from these, the pharmacological and psychosocial effects of inappropriate opioid prescribing and early deprescribing.
Outside work, Stan enjoys his family, Aikido, motorcycling, skiing.
