Tom King
Senior Lecturer In Sports Psychology
Tom is the Programme Lead of the Applied Sport and Exercise Science degree, and a Senior Lecturer in Sport Psychology at Wrexham University. Tom teaches across both the BSc (hons) Applied Sport and Exercise Science and the BSc (hons) Football Coaching and the Performance Specialist degrees, teaching Sport Psychology from first to final year.
Tom has extensive experience in the applied field of Sport and Performance Psychology, and is a chartered Sport and Exercise Psychologist with the British Psychological Society, and is HCPC registered. More recently Tom has worked in professional golf and professional football. Tom currently works as a Sport Psychologist with a number of DP World Tour, PGA Tour and Challenge Tour golfers, and has supported multiple winners on each of these tours. Tom has also previously worked at Leicester City Football Club from 2016-2019, where the psychological provision for the academy was established, as well as working heavily with the PL2 side before taking a full-time position in academia.
Tom has contributed to a number of publications, including a chapter in the well established 'Football Psychology from Theory to Practice' published by Routledge in 2019, as well as contributing to various case study papers and conference presentations over the years.
Toms educational background included a of a BSc (Hons) degree in Sport Psychology and an MSc in Sport and Exercise Psychology in 2011, at the University of Central Lancashire. In 2019, Tom completed the Qualification in Sport and Exercise Psychology, to establish chartered status as a Sport and Exercise Psychologist.
Tom joined the Sport and Exercise Sciences team at Wrexham University in 2017, and hopes to pass on applied sport and performance psychology experience to upcoming graduates seeking a career in sport, exercise and physical activity.
