5 reasons students love our Biomechanics & Performance Sciences Laboratory
As a Physiotherapy student at Wrexham University, the Biomechanics and Performance Sciences Laboratory is highly beneficial to me for many reasons. Developed as part of the Campus 2025 strategy, it’s packed with newly installed, modern equipment, and aims to allow us students to better understand how the human body actually works and what impacts performance. In this blog, I will share my five favourite things about the Laboratory.
Detailed analyses
The space allows us to complete more detailed analyses, which gives us a better understanding of certain conditions and the causes behind them. Ultimately, this helps us as students to be able to offer high quality rehabilitation in future roles.
Lots of equipment
The Laboratory has a wide range of equipment from free weights to the Alter-G treadmill (an anti-gravity treadmill that allows running or walking at a reduced body weight for patients or athletes recovering from injury). This provides me with lots of opportunity to try out different pieces of equipment and perfect my assessment techniques whilst working with students and external guests.
Practice
It has the tools for us to practise different analysis techniques using the industry leading equipment before I begin my future career. I feel this prepares me for the real-world environment, helping me to stand out from the crowd when it comes to employability.
Interprofessional working
I really like that the space allows for interprofessional working as this means that I get to work with students from a variety of different sports courses, helping me to better understand the job roles of future colleagues.
Networking
As a student, the facility provides better connections with local amateur sports teams and elite level sport. I get to meet new, successful individuals/companies and build my network. I really feel that the opportunities and benefits are endless!
Why study a Health or Sports-related course at Wrexham University?
The courses are really enjoyable. Due to the small class sizes, you are known as a name and not a number, and the lecturers really get to know your learning needs and how they can best support you. As well as this, we have some really great facilities as part of the new campus developments - from our Healthcare Simulation Centre to the Biomechanics Laboratory discussed in this blog. I am really looking forward to studying the rest of my course here!
