Hello everyone, my name is Ceri-Ellen and I'm Wrexham Univerity's Branch Officer. I graduated from Wrexham Univeristy in 2022 and I'm so grateful to be back and have the opportunity to support you as students on your journey through University.
The Head of Welsh Development
Elen Mai is responsible for leading on CYFLE - The Welsh Medium Strategy at Wrexham University. Elen Mai is the chair of the branch of the Coleg Cymraeg at Wrexham University and is also the Vice Chair for Culture for the National Eisteddfod in Wrexham 2025.

- Modules and Courses
Wrexham University offers opportunities for students to study and submit work through the medium of Welsh. Every student has the right to submit assessments through the medium of Welsh and are supported by a personal tutor through the medium of Welsh.
Students are also supported to carry out their work based learning through the medium of Welsh. The Coleg Cymraeg course finder will help with this Searching for a Course | Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
- Scholarships
Y Coleg Cymraeg awards several scholarships to students who study specific courses partly or wholly through the medium of Welsh.
- The Welsh Language Skills offer at Wrexham University
Wrexham University offers a pathway to all students to enable them to study the Welsh language on a beginners and a foundation level.
These modules are 20 credits and are additional to the student's learning. This is a fantastic way to enhance your Welsh skills in order to prepare for the world of work in Wales.
- Wrexham University Staff Welsh Work Scheme
Cymraeg Gwaith/Welsh Work – Opportunity to learn or improve you Welsh After a really successful first year of the Welsh Work Scheme, it is time to register your interest for the next year of upcoming courses.
These sessions are available for free for all staff at Wrexham University and are delivered during core working hours. In recognition of the importance of encouraging staff to develop their Welsh language skills the Vice-Chancellor’s Executive Team have approved the request for staff to attend the course during their working hours.
The University are committed to supporting staff to attend these sessions, with no expectation that you use your breaks to attend the course, you are expected to attend the course during work time, so please schedule a break before or after attending the classes.
The courses commence at the beginning of September 2024 and run throughout the whole academic year, whereby upon completion you will be eligible to sit an optional Welsh Work exam. Here is a link to a description of each level.
