Knowledge Transfer Initiatives
Our Knowledge Transfer Initiatives can directly support businesses and provide funding opportunities through the means of KTPs, Mini-KTPs and SMART Partnerships.
Shared Prosperity Funding
Eligible organisations based in Wrexham, Denbighshire and Flintshire can also access enhanced funding via Skills Vouchers, which are enabled through the Shared Prosperity Fund (SPF).
SFIS Welsh Government
SMART Flexible Innovation Support (FIS) is a unique Welsh Government Scheme with the single aim of helping Welsh organisations achieve “Innovation Excellence”.
Typical value of funding £100k per year for 2 years with Intervention rate – 50% (as of July 2024)

- Invest in Our Research
We have established robust Spinout and Licensing Guidelines designed to foster investment in our research and innovation. Our policies ensure mutually beneficial arrangements for both the University and our partners.
For spinouts, the University adopts a venture-friendly approach by taking industry standard equity in the newly formed company. Our equity stake includes dilution provisions in single digits when and where appropriate, allowing for greater flexibility and attractiveness to venture capital investors. Our goal is to support the growth and success of spinout companies while maintaining a beneficial partnership.
Our licensing deals are structured to provide significant advantages through royalty-based incentives on net sales. This model ensures that both the University and the licensee benefit from the commercial success of the licensed technology. We strive to create agreements that are fair, transparent, and geared towards long-term collaboration and profitability.
