The flexible structure allows you to focus on topics that suit your career and interests.

Teaching & Assessment

You will learn through a combination of online lectures, interactive seminars, guided readings, and practical activities that relate theory to real-world policing. Teaching is designed to be flexible, allowing you to balance study with work or personal commitments. You will typically spend around 10–12 hours per week on taught content, with a further 15–20 hours dedicated to independent study, research, and assessment preparation.

All modules are led by experienced lecturers with professional policing and academic expertise. You will take part in discussions, case studies, and problem-based learning, which encourage critical thinking and the practical application of knowledge.

Assessment is designed to test your understanding, analysis, and ability to apply learning to practice. You will be assessed through written assignments, reflective portfolios, presentations, and research projects. There are no traditional written exams. Instead, assessments are varied to support different learning styles and focus on developing skills relevant to senior roles in policing and criminal justice.

“On the policing course, we took part in a Crime Scene Day. It’s hands-on learning experiences like this that solidify why I wanted to go into Policing as a career. Days like this are also brilliant from an applicant perspective as it gives them an insight into what it’s like to study Policing at Wrexham University.”
