The Complexities in Health module has been designed to align with the NMC SPQ standards (NMC 2022 updated 2024).
This module will:
- Facilitate the justification and defence of sound clinical judgements made in assessment, planning, management, and evaluation, for individuals with a range of complex care needs in community nursing.
- Be delivered through a problem-based approach to commonly encountered community cases, for example, an individual at end of life, or with type 2 diabetes, heart failure or lung disease.

The Complexities in Health module contains the following indicative syllabus:

Entry requirements & applying
Applicants will be NMC registered nurses with current professional registration, ideally in a community setting, or with an interest in community nursing.
Teaching & Assessment
WU adopt an Active Learning Framework (ALF) approach to teaching and learning. This means that students are actively involved in learning and teaching is provided in a variety of formats drawing on the greatest learning potential.
With this in mind, the teaching team adopt a blended learning approach through a range of methodologies such as recorded lecturers, discussion forums, quizzes, case studies, group tasks, key readings, reflection and necessary learning activity will be available on the Moodle Virtual Learning Environment on a weekly basis.
There is an expected 30 hours of teaching and 155 hours of guided independent study., with 15 hours work based learning.
- Formative assessment: Simulated scenario group work
