Successful completion at Level 4 (12 months) will give you a Certificate of Higher Education; whilst an additional 12 months successful learning at Level 5 achieves a Foundation Degree.
On completion of your Foundation Degree, you can top-up to a BA (Hons) in Applied Business Management (Top-Up) with an additional 12 months successful study at Level 6.

What you will study
The comprehensive curriculum covers key business disciplines including marketing, finance, strategy and human resource management, developing practical and theoretical business leadership skills.
YEAR ONE (LEVEL 4)
MODULES
- Leadership and Management in the Modern Business Environment: The aim of this module is to develop an understanding of management and leadership by exploring the characteristics and skills of both managers and leaders. The module will present an insight into the nature and functions of management through studying local, national and global organisations. The module will also develop your study skills, introducing referencing, academic writing skills and guidance for understanding assignment briefs.
- Marketing in a Digital World: This module introduces the principles and practices of marketing in the contemporary digital business environment. It assumes no prior knowledge of the subject. The module provides an overview of the nature and scope of marketing and the environmental forces that affect marketing activity in a digital age, encouraging you to embrace the opportunities that digital technologies present in order to meet objectives for an organisation in an applied context. You are given the opportunity to research a marketing area of your choice The concepts and practices of marketing analysis and planning, including segmentation, targeting and positioning and best practices for consumer and organisational marketing are discussed drawing on case studies and industry examples. Each essential variable of the marketing mix and its impact on marketing planning is also addressed and digital marketing - the ever-evolving landscape and the digital marketing tools, channels and media are explored.
- Innovation and Entrepreneurship: The aim of this module is to give you the knowledge to understand entrepreneurship, entrepreneurs and the contribution to society and the economy. It further explores idea generation and innovation and enables you to conduct a business pitch scenario for potential investment. It will offer an opportunity for you to select and apply opportunity-centred entrepreneurial techniques to develop creative thinking, financial analysis, and problem-solving skills. You will be able to pitch your innovative ideas at the end of the module. This could be via a presentation, vlog, poster presentation or use of our on-site TV studio.
YEAR TWO (LEVEL 5)
MODULES
- Managing Contemporary Business Challenges: This module aims to develop a critical understanding of key concepts within business, the principles of stakeholder communication and relationship management, and the practical implications of business law. You'll engage in a simulated negotiation scenario with external moderators. This teaching block will be studied through a case study approach, learning from real business cases, and applying the knowledge to practical situations.
- Enhancing Organisational Performance: The fundamental focus of the module will be the underlying principle of the triple bottom line - the accounting framework that incorporates social, financial, and environmental measures of success. You will investigate each of these dimensions and learn how it is possible to apply and develop these concepts to evaluate and enhance business performance in a broad perspective to create greater business value and competitive advantage.
- Organisational Culture and People Development: This is a module aimed at recognising the importance of being able to apply the knowledge and skills gained during the programme to enhance practices within the workplace. Here will be an opportunity to investigate innovative ideas for improvements to a specific issue within the workplace, and you will be encouraged to focus on your personal and professional development within the work context.

Entry requirements & applying
The academic requirements for the course are 48-72 UCAS tariff points at GCE A-level and/or relevant experience.
You must have access to a computer and internet connection.
Teaching & Assessment
The Foundation degree is taught over two years on a part time basis. We hold 12 Learning Days per year, for which attendance is expected from 9.30 – 4.30 on Plas Coch campus. Additionally, there will be weekly online tasks to complete which will underpin and complement our Learning Days.
There are three, 40 credit, modules per year, each with four Learning Days. Our Learning Days consist of mini lectures, guest speakers, discussions and practical activities.
Each module has two assessments. These range from written reports, portfolios, practical tasks and can be individual or group work.
Teaching and Learning
We offer workshops and support sessions in areas such as academic writing, effective note-making and preparing for assignments.
Students can book appointments with academic skills tutors dedicated to helping deal with the practicalities of university work. Our student support section has more information on the help available.
