Sean Taylor

Oration for: Sean Taylor

Delivered by: Andrew Woods

It is my great pleasure to present Sean Taylor for the award of Honorary Fellow of Wrexham University.

Conwy Valley born and raised, Sean Taylor spent his early career as a Royal Marines commando, followed by a stint as a celebrity bodyguard. After 26 years of travelling for work, he returned home to the glorious North Wales for his next adventure.

In 2007, he opened the former Treetop Adventure in the popular tourist village of Betws-y-Coed, which quickly became one of the most popular high ropes adventure courses in the UK.

Zip World came to fruition through Sean’s dream of building the biggest and fastest zip line in the world over a quarry. The dream became a reality in March 2013 after 2 years of planning and construction.  Velocity is the world’s fastest zip line and Europe’s longest, and takes its place proudly amongst 27 other Zip World adventures, across 6 UK sites.

Sean hasn’t stopped there; 2022 saw Zip World dipping its toe into the world of short stays, opening the traditional Welsh hotel, Tyn-y-Coed, followed by stunning luxury Forest Lodges at the award-winning Zip World Betws-y-Coed in 2023.

10 years on, Sean is continuing to innovate and bring world-class experiences to the UK, with health and safety and Welsh roots always at its core.

In recognition of his outstanding contribution to Tourism, Welsh Heritage and Culture, it is my great pleasure to present Sean Taylor for admission to our highest honour of Honorary Fellowship of Wrexham University.
