A statement from our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maria Hinfelaar
Date: 1 November 2023
A statement from our Vice-Chancellor, Professor Maria Hinfelaar:
Dear all,
Following a highly successful and enjoyable 8 years as Vice-Chancellor and Chief Executive at Wrexham University I have decided to retire with effect from the 1st of September 2024.
This will mark the end of my full-time career in academia spanning four decades and three countries, including twenty years with end responsibility for a higher education institution. It has been a real privilege to work with a fantastic team here at Wrexham University and with stakeholders close to the University. Together, we are having a transformative impact on students and on our communities and I am confident this work will continue long into the future.
I will be fully focused over the next number of months to keep building the University and to eventually hand it over to my successor in good shape when I leave.
Once again, I have truly enjoyed my time in Wrexham and in North Wales and I would like to thank you for your support.
Professor Maria Hinfelaar,
Vice-Chancellor
Leigh Griffin, Chair of the Board of Governors said: ‘Maria’s leadership has been instrumental to the success and continuing growth of Prifysgol Wrecsam/Wrexham University and I thank her deeply for this. We will miss her when she leaves but, until then, I look forward to continuing to work with her on shaping the future of the University.’
