Appointment of new Dean of Wrexham Business School

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Ruth Slater as the new Dean of Wrexham Business School

Ruth is an experienced academic leader with a career spanning higher education, organisational development and professional learning across public, corporate and international contexts. As Head of the Centre of Educational Leadership and a senior leader in the Faculty of Society and Culture at LJMU, she has led innovative partnership and place-based initiatives that connect education, public services and communities both regionally and nationally. 

Ruth has made significant contributions to the Education Directorate at the Royal College of Physicians, where she supported national and international programmes to strengthen clinical education and leadership capacity across healthcare systems. Alongside this, she has led award-winning executive education and corporate leadership programmes with Liverpool Business School, collaborating with regional, national, and global partners to enhance leadership capability, innovation, and organisational performance.

An experienced executive coach, Ruth has supported senior and emerging leaders across the public sector to develop confidence, resilience, and strategic clarity. Her practice is founded on a people-centred and values-driven approach, fostering collaboration, inclusion, and trust in all aspects of partnership working. She is deeply committed to building sustainable communities and advancing co-design methodologies that bring together education, enterprise, and civic partners to achieve shared impact.

Ruth’s doctoral research explores the development of clinical talent and coaching pathways, examining how leadership and organisational culture can drive workforce growth and system-wide improvement. She also serves as a Governor at a large further education college in the region, reflecting her enduring commitment to skills, inclusion, and lifelong learning.

Dr Slater will take up her position on February 2, 2026.
