Date: Thursday, January 4, 2024
Prifysgol Wrecsam/Wrexham University has been announced as Widnes Vikings’ matchday staff run-on shirt sponsor for the new 2024 Championship season.
As part of the one-year deal, the University’s logo will appear on the front and back of the shirts of the team’s doctor, trainer, physiotherapist and water carriers during matchdays from the start of the new season.
It comes as a new strategic partnership has been created between the University and the Vikings, which aims to provide transformative coaching, performance and sporting insights for both students and the club.
Dr Simon Stewart, Dean of the Faculty of Social and Life Sciences at Wrexham University, said he hopes the sponsorship agreement will help to raise awareness and participation in higher education.
He said: “We are enormously proud to be Widnes Vikings’ matchday staff run-on shirt sponsor for the new season.
“Working together with the club is a top-tier combination and through our recently announced strategic partnership, it’s clear that we are aligned in a shared mission to elevate performance, optimise training methodologies, and further enhance the holistic development of players.
“We hope that by being the team’s matchday staff run-on shirt sponsor we can further increase participation and awareness of higher education, in order to raise the aspirations of young people within our communities and wider.
“We are absolutely delighted with this partnership and look forward to continue to work together and strengthen our links with the club.”
Chris Hamilton, Head of Operations at Widnes Vikings, added: "Following on from the recent announcement of our partnership with the University, we are naturally delighted to have secured this sponsorship deal for the 2024 season.
"The tops look great and will be a really good advertisement for Wrexham University throughout the season.
"We are appreciative of this financial support from them and are looking forward to working with them in this extension to our current partnership."
