Date: Wednesday, December 17, 2025

Wrexham University has become the first university in Wales to receive degree accreditation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS), marking a significant milestone for business education and employability in the region.

The accreditation applies to the University’s BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance and BSc (Hons) Accounting and Finance with Foundation Year/International Year, creating a direct, supported pathway into the globally respected Chartered Accountant (CA) qualification.

From 2026, students enrolling on these programmes will benefit from enhanced professional recognition and a clearer route into the accountancy profession, with the first graduates under the new accreditation expected to complete their studies in 2029.

This achievement reflects Wrexham University’s strong focus on employability, industry engagement and widening access to professional careers. It also aligns with the University’s inclusive ethos, including its commitment to supporting Welsh language use across teaching, learning and campus life.

The partnership with ICAS – the world’s oldest professional accountancy body – further strengthens Wrexham University’s role in developing skilled graduates who are equipped to make a positive impact regionally, nationally and internationally.

Dr Ruth Slater, incoming Dean of Wrexham Business School, said: “We are incredibly proud to be the first Welsh university to achieve ICAS accreditation. This recognition demonstrates the quality, relevance and professional alignment of our Accounting and Finance degrees, and reinforces our commitment to preparing students for successful, impactful careers.

“Our programmes are designed to open doors – not only to the profession, but to opportunities that benefit employers, communities and the wider economy.”

Gail Boag, Executive Director of Learning at ICAS, added: “Accrediting Wrexham University’s accounting degrees is a significant milestone for ICAS as we continue to widen access to the profession. The University’s strong emphasis on graduate employability and close links with industry make it an excellent partner in preparing future Chartered Accountants.”

The accreditation builds on Wrexham University’s growing reputation for industry-informed teaching, applied learning and strong professional partnerships, supporting its ambition to be a modern civic university delivering skills and talent for the future.
