Helen Craddock
Senior Lecturer Nursing Advanced Practice
Clinical Experience
I’m a caring, flexible, and hardworking Advanced Nurse Practitioner, with over 20 years’ acute adult nursing experience, specializing in Cardiology, I continue to work part-time in a clinical role. Having completed my nurse training through University of Wales, Bangor, my nursing career has been limited to Wrexham.
My clinical experience is medically focused, commencing my early career within a combined medical high dependency and coronary care unit, it is here that I developed a passion for cardiology. Taking a newly created position of Chest Pain Assessment Nurse, I was able to develop the role within the Emergency Department and gain invaluable acute experience within emergency care.
As a member of the acute chest pain assessment nurse team I have collaboratively and co-operatively worked with the multi-disciplinary team, providing specialist advice, support, education, and training, in a range of situations, to aid patient care, facilitate staff development and implement change. During this time, I have advanced my knowledge and skills, completing the MSc Advanced Clinical Practice, at Wrexham Glyndwr University, in 2019.
As an Advanced Nurse Practitioner in Cardiology, I continue to have responsibility for the autonomous assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patients presenting to the emergency department, acute ward, or outpatient clinic.
My experience includes being an advanced life Support instructor, I have a passion for teaching and supporting staff development, running regular multidisciplinary teaching sessions, with individuals and groups of all levels.
University Career
Having joined the postgraduate nurse lecturing team in January 2023, I am new in the post and at the start of my academic career. I’ve always had a passion for education and have significant experience in supporting staff and provision of ECG courses to a range of staff.
I have supported the Advanced Clinical Practice team as volunteer and on sessional basis over the past few years, with the delivery of the clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning, part 1 module. I’m eager to support students with creative learning and development of clinical skills in advanced practice.
Outside of Work
In addition to my nursing and lecturing roles I work alongside my husband, as a business partner and administration assistant on our family farm. I spend a lot of time as ‘mum’s taxi’ and ‘PA’ to my three active and busy children. I love outdoor activities and spending time with friends and family walking, skiing, and caravanning. To relax I spend time gardening and enjoy cooking, as a family we are actively involved with voluntary youth, and community work.
