Dr Jason Woolley

Reader in Employability

Jason joined Wrexham University as a part-time member of staff, from Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU) where he was a Programme Leader and Senior Lecturer. Jason’s PhD (studio-based composition) was sponsored through a competitive process by MYRIAD (Manchester) and awarded by MMU in 2011. His Master's in Digital Music Technology was completed at Keele University in 200,1 and his first degree is in Music and History. Jason has been a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy since 2017.

He has successfully supported Undergraduates to Graduation and has a number of PhD completions as Supervisor and Director of Studies, and has worked as part of PhD supervision teams at the Royal Northern College of Music. Jason has held a Faculty role for Employability, where he supported staff to achieve an enhanced student experience for Employability and improved Graduate Outcomes. Jason has been an external examiner and advisor for the University of West London, Coventry University, Nottingham Trent University (Confetti), York St John, University of East London, Point Blank (London), Middlesex University, and the University of Chichester. He has also supervised PG MBA projects at Aston University, and has also worked as a UG and PG supervisor for the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Jason is an active researcher and was a Visiting Research Fellow at Glyndwr prior to taking a permanent role. Jason’s research interests are employability and studio practice.  Jason has ongoing collaborative research projects with the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, Sweden.

Jason also has considerable industry experience. Outside his part-time role at Wrexham University, Jason continues to work from a recording studio in Shropshire called Wanderlust Sound. The Studio was designed by Chris Walls and has a vintage SSL console and an Otari Multitrack Tape Recorder. Jason is an Avid Certified Instructor for Pro Tools. Studio clients have included Waves Audio Ltd, Mascot, EFPI Records, Slam, Tuff Enuff, Fortuna Pop, Music Sales, Rockschool and Trinity College and The Audio Hunt.

Jason has considerable industry experience creating and supporting the creation of Music and Sound for Media from my own professional studio called Wanderlust Sound (www.wanderlustsound.co.uk). Past clients have included Fortuna Pop, SLAM, ChickFlicks, Fidelio, Mediafisch, Popcorn Video, RSL Awards (formerly Rockschool), EFPI, Tombed Vision, and Trinity College London. His productions have been broadcast on Radio, including Radio 6 and Jazz FM, and he still performs as a Guitarist at Grass Roots Venues and larger festivals such as Shiiine On. Jason’s hobbies and interests include jogging, watching and playing football.
