Dr Jo Turley

Jo has been at Wrexham University since 2009 where she began as a student following 25+ years working in the financial services arena. After achieving her BSc (Hons) Psychology degree, Jo became a Research Assistant within the Psychology department working on a variety of research projects. Following this, Jo studied and achieved her PhD with her thesis focused on the psychological impact of digital communication in children aged 7-11 years.

Alongside her PhD studies, Jo continued to work in the Psychology department as a Graduate Teaching Assistant during which time she successfully completed her PGCPD (Post Graduate Teaching Certificate in Higher Education). This led to Jo becoming a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. Jo is also a qualified person-centred counsellor.

In 2016, Jo became a full time Psychology Lecturer, progressing to Senior Lecturer in 2020. She is currently the Programme Leader and Admissions Tutor for BSc (Hons) Psychology / Psychology with Foundation Year programmes.

Research ethics and ethical practices are fundamental to Jo and she previously held the position of Chair of the Psychology Research Ethics Sub-Committee. From 2019 to 2023 Jo held the role of Academic Link for two partner institutions based in Greece.

Jo is a Chartered member of the British Psychological Society, with her main teaching and specialist areas being social psychology, cyberpsychology, and qualitative research methods.

In her spare time Jo enjoys spending time with her family, reading, cooking, and travelling overseas.
