Katie Phillips is a Lecturer in Law at Wrexham University, where she serves as Module Leader for Public Law, European Law, Tort, Property and Land Law, and Equity and Trusts. She also works as an Admissions Tutor, supporting prospective students as they begin their legal studies. Katie is currently undertaking a PhD by publication, focusing on contemporary issues within family law.

During her career in higher education, she has supported students in gaining practical experience by assisting with the provision of legal advice to community organisations, such as the Domestic Abuse Safety Unit (DASU). Alongside her academic work, she has volunteered with Citizens Advice as a generalist adviser.

Before entering academia, Katie gained practical legal experience in conveyancing and family litigation. She holds a First Class LLB in Law and a Distinction in the LPC LLM. Her achievements also include being a finalist in the BPP Advocate of the Year Competition and a finalist in the 9 St John Street Chambers Award.

Outside her professional commitments, Katie enjoys learning languages and is an enthusiastic skier.

Katie’s research interests focus on family law and the interaction between legal principles and the lived experiences of vulnerable parties. Her current work, undertaken as part of a PhD by publication, examines the presumption in favour of parental contact and its impact on cases involving domestic abuse. She is particularly interested in how legal frameworks balance child welfare, parental rights, and safeguarding responsibilities, and how these principles operate in practice within the family courts. More broadly, her interests include the protection of vulnerable individuals, access to justice, and the development of family law policy.
