Lisa Sheriff

Before joining the Education Team at Wrexham University, Lisa worked as a primary school practitioner in a large urban school in North Wales. She thrived in a diverse learning environment where inclusion and innovation were celebrated, and learners flourished.

During this time, Lisa participated in the ‘Creative  Schools’ project in Wales, integrating digital media to engage and challenge learners. She also incorporated innovative approaches to deliver components of the 2022 Curriculum for Wales during its drafting stages.

Lisa remains actively involved with Wrexham SACRE, where she previously served as chairperson. In 2019, her contributions to Religious Education led to her invitation to join the Welsh Assembly Government’s working party, supporting the preparation of the 2022 Curriculum for Wales.

While working full-time, Lisa earned her Master’s degree at Wrexham University and joined the Educational Workforce Council as an External Verifier. In this role, she mentors and coaches Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) in Wales—a responsibility she continues to fulfil.

Lisa is also pursuing doctoral studies, with a research focus on the pedagogy of interdisciplinary cross-curricular learning and teaching agency in the realisation of the Curriculum  for Wales 2024.

Since joining Wrexhamr University, Lisa has worked as an early-career researcher exploring outdoor learning and the concept of 'Cynefin'in primary classrooms in Wales. The initial research on Cynefin was published in  2023, and presented ar BERA in September of that year.  She is a member of the Curriculum and Pedagogy Research Network in Wales, and is currently working on research for publication on Cureere. Beyond her educational work, Lisa enjoys supporting the performing arts and promoting outdoor and physical activities. In her free time, she enjoys walking, gardening and travelling with her family.

Teaching Interests

As a previous primary practitioner I have been involved in Creative Schools Wales, Also in the introduction to the planning of teaching and learning cross-curricular and interdisciplinary curriculum approaches and pedagogy  for the curriculum for Wales.

I have currently teach science across the teaching training programmes, computing, technology, RE and Cross curricular, maths and elements of professional studies modules.  I have an interest in inclusion and holistic approaches to education.  In an n early research project explored behaviour management in the primary school, presenting empirical data from a case study from an urban primary school in North Wales. 

Creativity, interdisciplinarity and cross curricular learning continue to be an area of interest both in teacher training and in classroom practice.  

The focus of my doctorial studies has a research focus on the pedagogy of interdisciplinary cross-curricular learning and teacher agency in the realisation of the Curriculum  for Wales 2024.
