Phil Hooper

Lecturer in Paramedic Science

Wrexham University

Phil joined South Central Ambulance Service as an ECA in2010 after initially training as an Engineer.  He qualified as a Paramedic in 2015 attending Oxford Brookes University.  He subsequently undertook the additional training to join the Hazardous Area Response Team - matching his interest in providing pre-hospital care in unusual places and circumstances. After returning to Wales, Phil delivered training to various grades of ambulance staff before moving to the Welsh Ambulance Service to work within their control room. Most recently, Phil has spent several years working in Primary Care, enjoying the different challenges this brings and working closely with colleagues from a wide variety of clinical backgrounds.

Phil continues to enjoy outdoor pursuits, having previously been employed as an instructor, receiving training in high-altitude and remote area clinical practice.  He is particularly keen on his role within a Mountain Rescue Team where he can combine pre-hospital care and the love of mountainous areas.  He remains an active member and contributes to training their Remote Area Medical Technicians and working with other team and regional members on medical issues.

Phil has a special interest in remote and austere care.
