Robert Young
Sustainable Energy Systems SMART Partnership Associate
Robert Young is an expert in numerical modelling and sustainable energy systems.
Since graduating from BSc Renewable Energy at the University of Exeter, Rob has undertaken research into load prediction upon large-scale wind turbines using remote wind speed detection via LiDaR and the impact of yaw misalignment upon energy yields and tower loads at the Doctoral Training Centre for Wind Energy Systems at the University of Strathclyde.
Subsequent to his time as a wind energy researcher, Rob spent ten years as a Health Economist with a private consultancy, analysing clinical trials and developing health economic models to demonstrate the value of novel therapies in disease areas from oncology to cardiovascular disease to pruritus, and more besides.
He has since transitioned back to renewable energy research, and is currently undertaking a SMART partnership with ClwydAlyn housing association, helping them to develop housing schemes with optimal use of local generation and storage, reducing demand on the grid and lowering the cost of energy to residents.
