Stephen has had an award-winning career in photography before moving into academia. A regularly published photographer for lifestyle and sports magazines from the age of 15, he went on to formally study photography at Bournemouth & Poole College of Art & Design, Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) Gent Belgium and The University of Bolton.
Stephen co-founded the lifestyle magazine Document and held the role of senior photographer and Picture Editor for 10 years undertaking international assignments in places such as U.S.A, China, Russia, Australia, Japan and across the E.U before moving to develop his personal practice. His commercial work has seen him commissioned by many leading brands and organisations whilst his social documentary projects have been published and exhibited internationally. The projects and commissions he undertakes often focus upon our relationships to physical and social space along with notions of ownership and belonging.
Much of Stephen's work is collaborative and co-authored with the participants of his projects as well as with other artists, musicians, writers and academics. Stephen's work has seen wide critical acclaim most notably in winning the Brighton Photo Biennial in 2010
