What were you doing before coming to Wrexham University?

Before attending Wrexham University, I worked in a play centre in Wrexham and as a residential support worker for an organisation that supported people with disabilities whilst being a single mother to my son.

What attracted you to Wrexham University?

I wanted to create a better future for myself and my son

Tell us a bit about your course

The Youth and Community Work course opened my eyes to how important work with young people truly is, from fighting for social justice to simply creating safe spaces and communities where young people can flourish. It brought about a sense of belonging for myself and I found a real passion for working in the field I have landed in.

What was the atmosphere like around campus?

The atmosphere was great. It was friendly and accommodating to students.

What did you enjoy most about your course?

The relationships I have created with other like-minded professionals and the knowledge that I have gained that I now use in both my professional and personal life.

What was the support like?

I received outstanding support during my time at Wrexham University. With having disabilities and being neurodivergent, I often had struggles with a multitude of things however support was always offered, and I felt comfortable to ask my tutors for support.

How do you think you have benefited from studying at Wrexham University?

My life has completely turned around since starting university. I have learnt so much more than what is taught in lectures, I have gone through a diagnosis of ADHD, and this was only possible with the support from my tutors and peers. I have been able to achieve things that I never thought were possible for myself such as my degree, gained relationships and friendships that will be long-lasting and I have landed my dream job role from one of my placements which is supporting young people with disabilities! None of this would have been possible without attending Wrexham University and having the support and encouragement from my tutors.

Would you recommend undertaking a course with Wrexham University, and why?

Yes, I would (especially the Youth and Community Work course). The support at the University is incredible - from IT support to learning skills and other support, it's all offered to students to help them reach their goals.
