What were you doing before coming to Wrexham University?
I was working full-time in a job that did not give me a sense of satisfaction.
What attracted you to Wrexham University?
It’s local to my home, so I would not have to worry about high travel costs. I had also spoken to a student who had finished their social work degree the year I was going to be starting mine, and they had good things to say.
Tell us a bit about your course
The academic part of the course looks a lot at theory and developing practical skills, ready for the practical placements we embark on.
What was the atmosphere like around campus?
The atmosphere has always been great.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
The diversity of the content. There have been lots of topics explored, and it has helped me grow and develop as a person.
What was the support like?
The support has been excellent, from both the academic and support staff.
The academic staff on the social work course always make themselves accessible and are easy to approach; nothing has ever felt like a silly query or worry.
I have been lucky enough to access the university’s counselling support when I needed it – this process was incredibly quick, and I felt listened to throughout. It was amazing to get the help I needed when I needed it.
How do you think you have benefited from studying at Wrexham University?
I have made some lifelong friends, as well as grown and developed as a person with staff who have been nurturing of that.
Would you recommend undertaking a course with Wrexham University, and why?
Yes, I would. I would recommend it due to the level of support that is available to students.
