What were you doing before coming to Wrexham University?

Prior to studying at Wrexham University, I was a college student majoring in Art and Design. As it was coming up to my graduation, I knew I wanted to further expand my artistic knowledge and believed that university was the right place to achieve that.

What attracted you to Wrexham University?

The most significant thing that resulted in me choosing Wrexham was how the atmosphere felt when being guided through the university at an open day. I could visually see myself being a student, walking through the halls and heading to my lectures. I just felt so comfortable.

Tell us a bit about your course

My course is filled with an immense variety of workshops, some I have never even experimented with before. I love how I get to trial out new styles and techniques to create work. You find that there are many ways to express yourself within art. Furthermore, I personally enjoy learning how peers respond to a brief and compare it to how different my response is. It is fascinating to see the development.

What was the support like?

There is plenty of support going on around the university. For example, lecturers provide one-to-one sessions with each, individual student to address any concerns. This may be to do with the course, or things going on outside of education. There are additional pages on the ‘my uni portal’ website offering assistance to all students who could benefit from them.

How do you think you have benefited from studying at Wrexham University?

I’ve benefited a lot from studying here so far. For example, I would say my communication skills has improved positively, and my confidence has risen to the point that I’m starting to take on opportunities I normally wouldn’t go for. Like, writing this!

Would you recommend undertaking a course with Wrexham University, and why?

I couldn’t recommend studying at Wrexham University more! Everyone I’ve encountered so far (whether that be a student or a teacher) is so welcoming and polite. You feel like you’re in one, big community. Everything is close by, so no need to travel long distances to the train station, etc. And of course, Wrexham has a vast variety of courses for prospective students to choose from, so you’re bound to find something within your realm that you’d enjoy.

What have been your career highlights to date?

Within my course, I’ve definitely experienced a lot of memorable things, however, if I had to pick the best, it would be meeting my class. We are all so diverse and have come from different stages of life. It’s wonderful to help and learn from one another, whether it’s to do with our course or just life in general. Another highlight would certainly be the activities that our Students Union organises. My favourites so far must be: The Thrifty Business, Murder Mystery Night and Glyngo Bingo that was hosted by Shagger!
