Hollywood star visits Wrexham University
Hollywood icon Rob McElhenney has paid a surprise visit to the university campus, stopping for a chat and photos with the Marketing, Communications and Recruitment staff.
The ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ actor co-owns Wrexham University neighbours, Wrexham AFC, with fellow Hollywood legend and Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds.
Having taken over as Wrexham AFC bosses a little over a year ago, it was only a matter of time before the duo ventured onto the Wrexham University campus.
It is believed that Rob was in town filming for an upcoming documentary on Wrexham AFC.
The docu-series ‘Welcome to Wrexham’, will chart their acquisition of the football club and will follow them as they learn the ropes of what it takes to own a football club. The series, which has been ordered for two seasons, will ‘track Rob and Ryan’s crash course in football club ownership and the inextricably connected fates of a team and a town counting on two actors to bring some serious hope and change to a community that could use it’, according to FX’s synopsis.
To quote Rob during his visit, the football club’s motto is now “Up the City!”, following the town’s recent grant of city status. Read more about Wrexham changing from town to city to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.
