What you will study
- Tactical Analysis in Football (Core): This module aims to provide students with the skills required to analyse football practice. In keeping with the demands of advanced coaching practice, this module also seeks to develop a refined understanding of tactical approaches both developing game intelligence and informed football recruitment.
- Football Methodology (Core): This module aims to develop an advanced understanding of the use of game models and their application within a football environment. The module will look to showcase the ability to create sessions and develop players from a multi-disciplined approach.
- Player Performance and Development Pathways (Core): This module aims to appraise a variety of approaches to both training and playing curriculum design, whilst also appraising contemporary approaches to development. This module also aims to share insights and approaches from the field and the contemporary nature of this module requires students to approach content with an open mind and indeed position the knowledge exchanged within their own philosophy.
- Advanced Football Coaching Practice (Core): This module will advance students understanding of key management related issues, applied to a variety of roles within the football industry. It will also develop the skills required to demonstrate competence in the application of technical, tactical, physical & psychosocial information to achieve optimal team performance.
- Entrepreneurship in Sport (Optional): This module aims to provide students with the skills necessary to work as an effective multi-disciplinary team to provide sport and exercise science support to teams/athletes and or patients. It will provide knowledge on how students can apply research to practice as well as building relevant employability and entrepreneurial skills.
- Effective Leadership Strategies in Sport and Exercise Coaching (Core): This module aims to develop both theoretical frameworks and applied understanding of leadership within the sport and exercise science environment. It will provide the students with the opportunity to gain an understanding of the nature of organisations within the field and address challenges and key discussions in the applied world of sport and exercise.
- Psychological Provision in Sport and Exercise (Optional): This module provides advanced skills in understanding the ethical considerations when working with individuals in the environment and allows students to gain a thorough understanding of organisational effectiveness with individuals in sport and exercise.
- Dissertation (Core): This module enhances students ability to conduct independent research and encourages critical evaluation of existing literature and methods fostering the ability to identify gaps, contradictions and areas for further investigation.
- Research Practice and Examination in the Sport & Exercise Sciences (Core): This module provides students with an advanced understanding of the key principles and theoretical foundations of various research methodologies used in sport and equip students with practical skills in designing, conducting, and analysing research, including quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods approaches.
Entry requirements & applying
A 2:2 bachelors degree, a DBS may be needed for work in applied clinical settings.
Teaching & Assessment
A mixture of lectures, workshops, practical’s, pitch side, off-site visits and lab sessions are fundamental methods of teaching on the programme. The types of assessments vary from: posters, social media posts, presentations, businesses pitches, portfolios, project work and much more. The Sport and Exercise Sciences dept champions real-life authentic assessments, ensuring what students do as part of their degree can be translated into employment.
