Enter the sports industry field and gain insights into the national and international sports industries, taught by academics who are experts in their field.  You will develop skills such as marketing, consumer behaviour, entrepreneurship, and leadership across a range of sports industry arenas. 

  • This programme has a strong focus on advancing your professional development while providing career enhancing industry opportunities, through practical learning across our state-of-the-art learning spaces. Our dynamic classroom spaces will encourage you to bring theory to practice, resolving real-world challenges, recognising new markets and trends, and developing new ideas and solutions for the future.
  • The programme consists of 6 x 20 credit modules, and a final 60 credit professional project. During your studies you will be introduced to a variety of sporting industries and bodies and will have the opportunity to work with sporting professionals.  Throughout your taught modules, your expertise will develop in practices such as sustainability, responsible business practices, and data driven decision-making.   
  • This programme is delivered at Wrexham Campus and is available to study full time and part time.

What you will study

The learning and teaching strategy will consist of formal lectures to present theory, principles and practices which will form the foundation of the learning outcomes. Students will be encouraged to interact and contribute to classroom learning as a means of developing critical skills, and to strengthen their knowledge and understanding of theory to practice. Lectures will be structured to encourage individual and group activities using real world case studies and live business examples enabling students to develop their collaborative, decision making, judging and evaluating skills, as well as key transferable employability skills. In addition, students will be encouraged to undertake self-directed study and further research on their chose area of study, as well as related topics, to acquire additional perspectives which will provide them with a greater understanding of the sports business management topics within organisations and the wider environment.

  • The Sports Business Environment - 30 credits
  • Enterprise and Ventures in Sports Business - 30 credits
  • Sports Business Strategy and Leadership: The Case Method - 30 credits
  • Sports Business Innovation: The Lab Method - 30 credits
  • Final Project- 60 credits

Advanced Practice Placement - 60 credits

If you have opted to complete the additional advanced practice module, you will undertake a placement in addition to the studies above.  Find further information on the Advanced Practice Placement route.

 

 

Entry requirements & applying

Applicants will normally hold an honours degree of 2:2 or above in any subject), or international equivalent. A non-graduate qualification, which the University deems to be of satisfactory standard for the purpose of post-graduate admission may also be accepted. Applicants may be a recent graduate, who have achieved their honours degree, and wish to continue to post graduate studies to elevate their career opportunities. Where necessary, or as part of the University’s policies and processes, applicants may be subject to additional selection criteria.

We offer workshops and support sessions in areas such as academic writing, effective note-making and preparing for assignments.
