What you will study

Indicative content will include:

  • Adolescent development and transition and how this may influence adolescent behaviour in terms of risk-taking behaviours and resilience.
  • The module will also explore the concept of safeguarding and how this relates to child protection.
  • This will be examined in terms of the current political and policy context, looking at the role of the professional, organisations and the State.
  • Sessions will also examine the issues faced by specific groups of young people and community members, such as young people in care & care leavers, adults with mental health issues, offenders, carers, people experiencing substance misuse, asylum seekers etc.
  • The module will then explore the concepts of multiagency and partnership working, examining how this can work to safeguard children and young people, but also the impact this has on individual professional identity and the need to ensure that practice is anti-oppressive.
