New learning spaces for Education courses at WGU to be unveiled at special event

Date: Monday 26th June, 2023

Brand new learning spaces for Education courses at Wrexham Glyndwr University (WGU) are to be unveiled at a showcase event taking place next week.

The new facilities, which feature two professional standard classrooms and a science garden aimed at further improving both learner and staff experiences, have been completed in recent weeks to further enhance the institution’s Education offering.

Karen Rhys Jones, Principal Lecturer in Education and Initial Teacher Education Lead at WGU, said the new facilities would “further enhance the student experience and quality of learning” on the university’s range of Education programmes.

She said: “We are absolutely delighted with our new facilities. The classrooms are modelled on primary education classrooms, equipped to provide our students with an authentic classroom experience with the opportunity to see the learning process being modelled.

“Our science garden is a fantastic outdoor learning space, which will allow us to further build upon our offer. It enables us to seamlessly lead and connect sessions – for example, linked to sustainability and humanities, as well as positively contributing to health and wellbeing.

“Our students, who have started to use the new spaces, are thrilled with them and definitely feel that they have improved their learning experience at WGU.”

On Monday 3 July, the Education team at WGU are inviting local partners to come and see the new teaching spaces for themselves.

It comes as the university has also started to offer its PGCE in Primary Education as a part time route.

Karen added: “Anyone that has studied for a PGCE on a full-time basis will attest to the fact that it is an extremely fast-paced and demanding year. We therefore feel that our new part-time PGCE in Primary Education is an extremely exciting development.

“It is a unique offer in the local area and provides flexibility to balance the journey to becoming a teacher with the demands of a career and home life.

“It means that those who may have other responsibilities – be it raising a family, caring or even working, will be able to maintain those, alongside their studies.

“Although the programme provides the opportunity to study the same modules as the full-time programme, the part time route is designed at a more manageable pace. Students complete their qualification in 15 months, which is still a relatively short period of time, but it potentially provides students with the flexibility to balance their journey to becoming a teacher with the demands of career and home.”
