Clinical Experience

I am a Registered Adult Nurse, Independent Nurse Prescriber and Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), with 18 years of nursing experience across the NHS, private healthcare and higher education.

My clinical background has given me extensive experience in patient care, pharmacology, medicines management and prescribing practice. This experience has shaped my academic career and my particular interest in the education and development of healthcare professionals.

University Career

I am currently the Programme Lead for Non-Medical Prescribing and have academic experience across several higher education institutions. I have taught undergraduate MBChB students and postgraduate healthcare professionals undertaking Non-Medical Prescribing programmes.

My teaching interests include prescribing, pharmacology, clinical skills and simulation-based education. I have experience developing and delivering learning across face-to-face, online and simulation environments, as well as supervising and assessing postgraduate students.

I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and hold an MSc in Medicine and Healthcare Education with Distinction. I am passionate about evidence-based healthcare education and supporting students to become safe, confident and competent practitioners.

Out of Work

Outside of university, I enjoy keeping active and spending time with family and friends. I enjoy swimming, cycling, ice skating and going to the gym, as well as spending time with my pets.

Research Interests

My research interests focus on non-medical prescribing, prescribing education and the development of safe and confident prescribing practice. My Master’s research explored nurses’ perceptions of their preparedness following completion of a Non-Medical Prescribing programme. This developed my interest in the relationship between prescribing education and clinical practice, particularly in relation to preparedness, professional confidence, mentorship and patient safety. I am particularly interested in how prescribing education can continue to evolve to support practitioners and meet the changing needs of healthcare.
