Crime and Punishment Through the Ages

Step into the shadowy world of the witch trials and discover what they reveal about fear, power, and justice.

This session explores how some of history’s most infamous moral panics shaped our understanding of crime and punishment. From tortured confessions to folk devils, we’ll uncover the roots of criminology through the lens of those branded as witches and the criminal justice response.

This FREE event is perfect for anyone curious about punishment, justice and how we define deviance across time.

Attendees must be 16+.

Jack Sargeant - More Engineers at the Table: the voice of STEM professionals in politics and policy

About Jack

Jack Sargeant was the Member of the Senedd for Alyn and Deeside from 2018 until May 2026. He served as Minister for Culture, Skills and Social Partnership in the Welsh Government. A time-served engineer with a degree in industrial engineering from Wrexham University, before politics, he worked as a machinist at an engineering services company and as a research and development engineer with Atlas Copco.

About the Talk

Join us in welcoming Jack Sargeant to Wrexham University for a thought-provoking talk on what engineering can bring to public life. Drawing on his journey from engineering apprentice and manufacturing engineer to Member of the Senedd and Welsh Government Minister, Jack will share his experiences of engineering, politics and public policy.

The talk will explore why engineers, and STEM professionals should have a stronger voice in decision-making, and how engineering approaches to problem-solving could help tackle some of the challenges facing North Wales, from skills and advanced manufacturing to technology and regional development.

Come along to hear a different perspective on the role engineers can play in shaping our communities and our future.
