Applied to university? Here’s what you should know

Applying to university is an exciting step, but the process doesn’t stop once you’ve submitted your application. With important decisions still to come, it’s natural to have some questions along the way.

In this blog, we will answer some common questions that students often have once they’ve applied for university to make things clearer. You might even find the answer to a question you hadn’t even thought of yet!

When should I apply for accommodation?

Applications open in March. Visit our accommodation page for more details on how to apply and sign up for alerts.

When should I apply for funding?

The timing for applying for funding depends on whether you’re applying as an undergraduate, postgraduate, full-time or part-time student. Whether you're applying for Student Finance or NHS funding is also a factor to consider. There's no one-size-fits-all answer, so it’s best to check the relevant funding body’s website and social media for updates. We also recommend signing up for their mailing lists as soon as you’re interested to stay informed.

When can I apply for the NHS Bursary?

The NHS Bursary application depends on the cohort you're enrolling onto and when the courses are updated in the system. If you require additional living loans, make sure to apply for Student Finance as well. The key point to remember is that you have a deadline of 10 weeks after enrolment to apply for or opt out of the NHS funding. You can find out more about this bursary on our NHS funding webpage.

How do I get in touch with the funding team for an enquiry?

For any funding enquiries, please register* on our funding and money advice portal  and select the University Applicant option to submit your questions. This will allow us to confirm the details and provide funding options based on your individual circumstances.

Wrexham University has a dedicated Funding & Money Advice Team (FMAT) that can guide you on available funding options depending on your course choice, personal situation, and the application timeline.

*Please note that registering on this platform does not commit you to enrolling in a course at Wrexham University.

How long after applying does it normally take to hear back on the decision?

The response time can vary depending on the course, whether shortlisting for a potential interview is needed, and the time of year. We strive to get back to you as quickly as possible.

I have been given a conditional/unconditional offer for one of your courses, but can I defer to next year?

For some courses, this may be possible. Please email us on admissions@wrexham.ac.uk and we’ll be happy to advise you. For others, you may need to reapply for the next intake.

When do I have to accept by?

If you applied through UCAS, your deadline will be individual and based on when you receive decisions from your chosen universities.

Applying to university involves several steps and decisions, but staying informed and planning ahead can make the process smoother. Make sure to check your emails, meet deadlines, sign up for updates where possible, and reach out to support if you need it.

If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to get in touch by emailing admissions@wrexham.ac.ukwe’re here to help.
