Why choose this course?

Compassionate Leadership is designed to contribute towards a core national workforce strategic theme. To demonstrate compassionate and collective leadership across the NHS Wales and Social Care by 2030 (HEIW and Social Care Wales 2020).

The course is delivered online using action learning sets. These action learning sets consist of up to 5-6 students per set from each health board across Wales and professional backgrounds to ensure psychological safety. The assignment is focused on the production of resources which will further contribute to facilitating compassionate leadership cultures in the workplace. The lecture content is based on different themes to developing a compassionate leadership culture.

Key course features

  • This module aims to introduce you to the behaviours of compassionate, collective, and inclusive leadership practices, through developing a critical understanding of the core concepts, facilitators, barriers and enablers to embedding compassionate leadership within a workplace culture.
  • The delivery is online using Microsoft Teams.

What you will study

Each week will consist of a session on different aspects of compassionate leadership for example: Managing behaviour positively, openly, improving equality, as well as Asynchronous Online content and action learning sets and feedback facilitated and chaired by experts. 

Entry requirements & applying

Previous graduate or significant experience in Healthcare considered. 

Teaching & Assessment

  • Taught online utilising action learning sets (breakout rooms in Microsoft Teams). Support will be provided with digital skills as required.
  • Students are assessed by the development of a Compassionate leadership resource which they could potentially utilise in their workplace.
  • There is expected independent study and assignment between the sessions.
